Baroque Flamenco Bootcamp

21 Days of Online Learning to play "Baroque Flamenco" my powerhouse harp showcase!

FAQs

What is it?

It's a 3-Week online learning bootcamp where I teach you - step by step - to play my fiery powerhouse showpiece for harp, "Baroque Flamenco!"

register, you'll get into the course website where I'll post each of the 10 lessons and where you have access to all the resource files including a step-by-step video playthrough of every technique in the piece, and downloads to the newest unreleased edits I make in the piece including simplifications and embellishments of the sheet music.

It's also an online community of other harpists all over the world who are learning and playing this piece - harpists who'll give you support and encouragement as you add this fiery showpiece to your repertoire.

Why is it called a "Boot-Camp?"

Mostly I just really liked the way it sounds.  But also because this is an intensive.  Bootcamp also means to me that it's not about being 'perfect' or getting every single note 'right.'

It's all about getting a version of the piece in your fingers that you can actually play right now - whether you've studied the piece before or not -- so that you can start playing it and having fun with it!  Then, if you want, you can go back to the lessons and add as many finesses as you want - because you'll have at least 3 months extra access to all the lessons and videos, even after the course is over.

You'll need to set aside at least an hour each day for the first 4 days -- when you get one new lesson a day.  After that  -- to watch the video, and then practice the section of the piece we're working on. You get catch-up days, especially as the course progresses - and at the end of the 3 weeks you'll have a version of the piece under your fingers if you're learning it for the first time - and you'll have it much more honed, if you've already learned the notes.

Who should take this?  Do I need to be a professional?

"Baroque Flamenco Bootcamp" is open to a players in the following categories:

A. Advanced Beginner
B. Intermediate

C. Professional/Advanced

Each lesson is split into 3 parts - one for each level - so you only need to take the part that relates to your level of playing.  Teachers, of course, will be interested to go through all three levels if they'll be teaching the piece to their students.  And many people take different sections from different levels to create their own customized, personalized version of the piece.

Do I need to already know the piece?

No. You can learn it from scratch, or take the course to hone it.  Obviously, your results will be different depending on whether you're learning it for the first time, or honing what you know - but even if you're learning for the first time, you'll be able to go back and review the course videos for 3 months after the course is over - and the course includes a full warm-up module with exercises you can use to learn or hone specific sections of the piece.

Why Did You Create this Bootcamp?

"Baroque Flamenco" was a featured work at both the American Harp Conference (New Orleans / June 2014) and the World Harp Congress (Sydney, Australia / July) - including the "Passion Meets Performance" masterclass at the World Harp Congress.

I originally created the course to help applicants for the Masterclass prepare their audition materials and then realized it would be more useful if I taught the whole piece, on all three levels - so everyone can get the benefit of bootcamp - whether they're learning the piece for the first time or they're advanced players interested in auditioning for the masterclass or performing it themselves.

What is the "Home-Study" Version?

The "Bootcamp" includes guided sessions, released on a schedule, live online chats, performance challenges and input from me.  I run the Bootcamps only 2 or 3 times a year - and that's when you can often get the best price on the course if you've signed up for my "First-to-Know" list.

When there's no "Bootcamp" in session, I often open the course for "Home-Study," which is a completely self-guided version of the course.  Because you join the course after the modules are all open, Baroque Flamenco "Homestudy" lets you work completely at your own pace.  is offered several times a year as a guided course that includes live online chats, performance challenges and input from me.  In between guided sessions, I offer a "Home-Study" version in which all the modules are available to you at once, and you can work at your own pace.

Who would want the "Home-Study" Version?

If you're working on the piece either for your own pleasure or for a performance and there's no guided session available, the "Home-Study" version allows you access to study it on your own.

I wrote "Baroque Flamenco" as a showcase ...

... a showcase for the passion, power and beauty of our amazing instrument.

It took me years to write it ... but now I want to teach it to you in a 3-Week bootcamp!

Will you be performance-ready at the end of the bootcamp?   If you've already been working on this piece and already know 'the notes,' this course will help you hone every part of the piece.

If you're just learning it for the first time, you'll definitely want time to work on the notes - and then review the course materials.

That's why the course also includes live Q&A sessions, a set of warm-up exercises, 3-months access to the class website  after the course is over -- and membership in the BFBC private Facebook group - so that once you understand how it works, you can work on it, go back and watch the videos, connect with others learning it - and ask questions as you work on the piece.

You also get to download all the PDF worksheets and handouts and MP3 versions of the lessons themselves.

Live Online Composer Q & A's!

No matter how carefully I notate the music, and no matter how diligently you read it and watch my videos there are always more question when we learn.  That's why there are three dedicated Q&A online sessions where you can ask me, personally, about the parts of the piece YOU need special help with.

THE BAROQUE THEME

I used the theme from Jean Jacques Rousseau’s lovely “Minuet in A Minor” as the Baroque theme for this piece.

THE FLAMENCO VARIATIONS

Each of the variations becomes more intricate – but there’s a secret to how they’re constructed and a trick to simplifying them – or improvising on them!

THE CADENZA

Here’s where the fireworks really start. Each lesson you’ll learn part of the cadenza, how to interpret it,  phrase it and really make the special effects work!

THE CODA

The coda’s one of the most exciting parts of the piece – and also one of the simplest ... if you know the secret behind it. I’ll show you how to get the whole audience to jump up into a spontaneous standing ovation by the way you play the last few notes!

You'll learn all the parts of the piece step by step

What You'll Learn in the Course

"I had a lot of theory with music lessons but never was taught what to do with it. This is the first time I was able to put music theory to practical use. " Gretchen Cover (Florida, USA)
